Nar Phu Valley and Upper Mustang Trek with Teri La Pass
Teri La Pass Trek: An Adventure Holiday in Total Widerness!!
Nar Phu Valley traverses Teri La (5500 m), and the Upper Mustang Trek is an extreme adventure trekking that fulfills the desire of those who seek wilderness experience in the Trans Himalaya of Nepal. Wilderness Excursion has been operating Mustang adventure trips since its inception. We promote more daring and exhilarating treks in isolated and wilderness areas. We first trekked into the remote, fortified Tibetan villages of Nar Phu Valley, north-east of the Annapurna circuit, and then set off to the last forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang. This exploratory section will be wild and wonderful, walking along an ancient salt trade route over a high pass to Upper Mustang, where we camp with the nomads in spots that see no other westerners. We trek along the eastern winter route from Lo and explore the newly discovered Buddhist caves in the sky, also visiting the remote villages of Dhi, Ghara, Yara, and Tange and the renowned Luri and Tashi Kabum cave gompas.
Nar Phu and Upper Mustang, both areas recently opened to foreigners, have been restricted areas to preserve the unique Himalayan culture and tradition. So we will see fewer trekkers than in many of Nepal's trekking regions. The inhabitants are ethnically Tibetan, traders of old, and have lived an isolated existence for centuries. Phu is an intriguing fortified village perched on a hill at the intersection of many glacial valleys and surrounded by high Himalayan peaks, and Nar is an attractive, busy village of slightly more modern 'Bhotias', or Nepali Tibetans. Both are impressively beautiful. Upper Mustang was first traveled by a handful of intrepid Himalayan travelers and pilgrims in the 1950s and 1960s, and we continue in their spirit of exploration. Our journey goes along some of the least known routes to the more isolated villages in this sun-drenched region, often following the rocky Kali Gandaki riverbed, other times trekking on spectacular trails high above it, and descending through marvelously sculpted and multi-hued gorges.
Trekking Permits
You will need two restricted permits: Upper Mustang restricted area permits that cost USD 500 and allow you to enter for 10 days in Upper Mustang, USD 100 for Nar and Phu Valley during September to November, and USD 75 from December to August.
