The Annapurna North Base Camp trek offers remote wilderness exploration, following the historic route of the 1950 first ascent of Annapurna I. It's a challenging, lodge-free trek with stunning Himalayan views, ideal for adventurous trekkers and photographers.

Trip Overview

Annapurna North Base Camp Trek is proposed to those who like to trek in the wilderness and less explored areas in the famous Annapurna region. No mountains higher than 8000 meters had ever been climbed before 1950. A French expedition group led by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal became the first climbers in history to climb the summit of Himalayan Mountain Annapurna I on 3 June 1950. This expedition group wanted to try either Dhaulagiri (8167 meters) or Annapurna I (8091 meters). The team initially made a move to start looking for a route to either Dhaulagiri or Annapurna. Deciding that Dhaulagiri was too difficult, they found their way to the North Face of Annapurna. The route is now popular as the French North Face Route. They reached the summit of Annapurna without oxygen. Down to Annapurna became a great challenge and adventure for them. It was a crazy descent, dodging the snowstorm, avalanches, and other misses. Both barely make it back to camp.

Annapurna was not climbed again until 1970, after which a British Army expedition followed the same route to get to the summit. Mountain lovers and adventurous people in a few numbers are now exploring Annapurna North Face Base Camp, despite the difficult trail. So fresh and everlasting experience awaits you. Wilderness Excursion offers this new trekking itinerary for wilderness trekking lovers to the base camp of Annapurna on the northwest side. However, it is difficult trekking, but it certainly allows you to explore the beauty of the Himalayas with various panoramic views. The views of Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhepuchare, Dhaulagiri, natural hot springs, and Gurung culture are the main highlights of this trek.

Our journey begins from Pokhara; we drive to Tatopani and follow the Maurice Herzog trail route. On the first day, we reach Narchayng village and Chhotema on the second day, and one more day to the north base camp of Annapurna I (8091 m). We trek through the places of Kalokhola, Phulbari, and pasture near base camp. We reach the base camp on the 9th day of the journey. It takes almost three to four days to return from the base camp. We can return via Lete in Mustang. Tourists may find the journey a little difficult as no lodge or hotel is yet established along the new trekking route. This adventurous trekking is best for filming and photography. We provide highly experienced experts, professional trekking guides, and Sherpa to take care of our clients.
