Why Choose the Mardi Himal Trek?
The Mardi Himal Trek offers a unique combination of features that make it an appealing choice for a wide range of travelers.
Spectacular Mountain Views
From the moment trekkers emerge from the treeline, the views are nothing short of world-class. The trek offers a front-row seat to some of the Annapurna range's most majestic peaks. The centerpiece of the panorama is the iconic Machhapuchhre (6,997 m), whose twin peaks resemble a fish's tail and are considered so sacred that climbing them is forbidden. Flanking this holy mountain are the formidable Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), and the majestic Hiunchuli (6,441 m). The sunrise from Mardi Himal Base Camp, as the first light ignites these snow-capped giants, is a truly magical and unforgettable experience.
The Mardi Himal Trek: Exploring the Nature and Wilderness
The Mardi Himal Trek offers nature lovers an immersive journey through the heart of the preserved forest in the Annapurna region. The trail serves as a living laboratory of biodiversity, where the ecosystem transforms dramatically with altitude. Trekkers ascend from lush, biodiverse lowland forests teeming with wildlife into the serene, rocky expanse of the high alpine zone,
Rich in Biodiversity and Beautiful Landscapes
The trek is a journey through distinct ecological zones. Starting the trek from Pokhara at merely 800 meters, terraced farmlands and subtropical forests, the trail ascends into dense, enchanting forests of oak, bamboo, and rhododendron. In the spring (March to May), these forests explode into a riot of color as the rhododendrons—Nepal's national flower—bloom in shades of red, pink, and white. As trekkers climb higher, the landscape transforms into alpine pastures, seasonal yak pastures, and finally a barren, rocky ridge that feels like another world, with clouds often swirling dramatically in the valleys below and giant Annapurna peaks right in front of you to the north.
Discover Nepal's Rural Lifestyle and Cultural Experience
At the Mardi Himal Route, the upper sections of the trek are devoid of permanent settlements; the lower regions provide a wonderful opportunity to experience Nepalese village life. The trail passes through or near villages like Siding, Lwang, and Dhampus, which are predominantly inhabited by the Gurung and Magar communities. With the help of our professional guide from Wilderness Excursion, travelers can interact with locals, stay in homestays (optional), and gain insight into their traditional lifestyles, Hindu and Buddhist culture, and warm hospitality.
Accessible for All Levels of fitness.
The Mardi Himal trek is perfect for all those with limited time or leisure walking enthusiasts with a strong desire for a high-altitude Himalayan experience. The core trek can be completed in as few as 4 to 7 days, making it an ideal addition to a longer trip or a standalone adventure. Its moderate difficulty also makes it accessible to beginners in good physical condition, while still being rewarding for experienced trekkers
Is this trek for you, or how difficult is this trek?
Well, the Mardi Himal Trek is classified as a medium-hard trek. But regular hikers find it easy. If you follow our 4-day itinerary, you will reach high camp—the highest (3780 m / 12398 ft) place you sleep—and the next day, an early morning excursion to Mardi View Point at 4300 meters, so this is a fast ascent and rapid descent, but a super good trip for fit trekkers. Find the daily altitude gain and the approximate distance ascending and descending.
Planning to do the Mardi Himal Trek in 4 days. What would be the itinerary?
Typically, the Mardi Himal Trek requires 4 to 7 days. Expert or experienced hikers can complete it in 4 days, starting and ending at Pokhara. You will need an extra two days if you use land travel between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Those with restricted time can opt for taking a flight to Pokhara and begin the trek straight up to Kokar (tourists call it forest camp), which is followed by a drive to Kande or Dhampus. On day two, reach High Camp, now you are at 3780 meters altitude. And on the 3rd day, an early morning excursion to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500 m) and retrace Badal Danda or forest camp. Likewise, on the last day (day 4th), you will hike down to Kalimati for lunch and drive to Pokhara or Kathmandu. An evening flight is also available to Kathmandu.
For a comfortable and amusing trek, Wilderness Excursion suggests a 5-day itinerary or 6 Days Mardi Himal Trekking planning that allows you a pleasant walk at your own pace and enjoy nature and trekking fully, and that itinerary is suitable for all level trekkers. Similarly, if you are a pro hiker and have only 4 days in your hand, then this itinerary is the most suitable for you.
4 Days Mardi Himal Trek Outline Itinerary with Daily Altitude Gain
| Day | Description of Activities | Elevation | Time / Distance in KM |
| 1 | Pokhara - Kade drive and Trek to Kokar | 2520m asl | 7 to 8 Hours / 18 KM |
| 2 | Trek to Mardi High Camp | 3780m asl | 6 to 7 Hours / 13 KM |
| 3 | Excursion to Mardi View Point / MBC and retrace to Low Camp | 3200m asl | 7 Hours / 13.5 KM |
| 4 | Trek to Kalimati & drive back to Pokhara. | 800m asl | 6 to 7 Hrs / 12 + 25KM |
Important Note! The route follows a narrow valley and ridge trail. Many trekkers went missing, including some Nepalese local trekkers. The trail is demanding to climb to the viewpoint. So, it is always advised to allow a few spare days for beginner and moderate trekkers in case you can not complete it in 4 days. Nevertheless, the trail is one of the most pleasing trekking routes in Nepal.
I am not an expert. Can I extend the trek itinerary if necessary?

The best time of the year or the right season for going on the Mardi Himal Base Camp trek
Though the Mardi Himal Trek is accessible year-round, based on our guiding expertise, the best times to fully experience its vibrant greenery, wildflowers, crisp air, and rain-washed, crystal-clear mountain views are April and September through early October.
April vs September – A Comparison
- Trekking in April and September offers pleasantly cool temperatures—neither too cold nor too warm.
- April falls during the peak of the spring season, yet it remains less crowded than the autumn months.
September is also relatively quiet, especially compared to October and November. This is largely because Nepal’s two biggest festivals—Dashain and Tihar—occur during October and November. The two-week-long holidays lead many Nepalese to hit the trails, particularly on accessible routes like Mardi Himal, Annapurna Base Camp, and Langtang Valley. During October and November, the weather is stable, and the mountain views are at their finest.
Shoulder Season Alternatives
You can still enjoy an excellent trek in March, May, or October to November if you don’t mind sharing the trail with more trekkers.
Off-Season Trekking
Monsoon (June to August): The trail can be wet, and views are often affected by clouds and rain. However, for those looking to avoid crowds, this season offers peaceful trails with lush, verdant landscapes, blooming flora, and budget-friendly options. The rain clears the dust and brings stunning waterfalls to life.
Winter (December to February): While temperatures can be cold, the days are often dry and sunny. With proper warm clothing and gear, winter trekking is still ideal. However, it's important to check forest conditions before heading out, as heavy snowfall can create hazardous trail conditions.
What happens if I cancel the trip?
You can cancel your trip at any time. As of 2026, we’ve introduced greater flexibility in our cancellation policy. If you cancel more than 30 days before departure, you will only lose your deposit (15% of the total trip value). We also offer the flexibility to postpone your trip at no extra cost, and you can use your credit for up to two years. For full details, please refer to our booking terms and cancellation policy via the link provided.
Can I sleep at Mardi Himal Base Camp?
No, you cannot typically sleep directly at the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500 m) as there are no accommodations or teahouses there. The standard practice is to stay in High Camp (3700 m) and make a day hike to the Base Camp. Accommodation along the route consists of basic teahouses with twin beds, shared toilets, and blankets provided.
Permits and conservation fees:
To trek to Mardi, you will need ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permits and TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System). Wilderness Excursion includes all the necessary trekking permits and local government fees as part of the trip package.
The Mardi Himal Trekking is in Annapurna, the only Himalayan range centrally located in Nepal, north of the popular town of Pokhara City in eastern Nepal.
No problem for the fit and experienced trekkers to complete Mardi Himal Trek in 3 Nights and 4 Days hiking, including 6 to 7 hours of daily trekking and steep ascents and descents involved and really a good aerobic trek for adventurers.
The best months to do the Mardi Himal Trek are in September to see the alpine wild flowers with rain-soaked beauty and lush green forest, and April to see the ten kinds of Rhododendron flowers blooming. However, Mardi Himal Trek is doable around the year.
Hiring a porter is not mandatory if you pack light and strong enough to carry your main pack. But we (Wilderness Excursion) recommend to hire a porter shared between two trekkers as this is fast trek and can be very demanding and tiring.
No, there is no electricity all the way to the base camp of Mardi Himal, but there is power for the first and last days of this trek. You can charge with solar power where there is no electricity.
You should be reasonably fit and healthy to undertake this 4 days short trek to Mardi Himal. Your health and fitness determine how much you enjoy the experience, especially considering the long days, elevation gain, and varying terrain.
