Annapurna Sanctuary Trek - 8 Days
Annapurna Sanctuary Trek Overview
Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is famous for its splendor and miraculous beauty. Annapurna Sanctuary, enclosed by a massive ring of Himalayan giants, is an incredible experience that attracts many trekkers from all corners of the world. We hike with the help of our local, expert Nepalese guide from Wilderness Excursion. Our years of experience and commitment to excellence make this trip excellent.
Our carefully crafted 8-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek itinerary takes you through remote villages, terraced farmlands, and forests of bamboo and rhododendron trees. Along the way, we are treated to impressive mountain views and glimpses of local villagers. Our destination is the heart of the mountainous amphitheater that holds Annapurna Base Camp. Here, we enjoy 360° views of rising snowy peaks and a sense of immense exhilaration and solitude. Wake up to catch the sunrise over the Annapurna South; an incredible, mind-blowing view that is not to be missed. Completing this trek is a lifetime memorable journey that few will ever experience. If you lack the time for the 8 Days trek, check our 7 Days Annapurna Sanctuary Trek.
Trekking through traditional paths used for hundreds of years by Tibetan traders, this one-week-long trek to Annapurna Sanctuary can only be explained as mind-blowing. The Annapurna Sanctuary is well-regarded for its unique beauty and spiritual significance. Our journey starts from Kande, walking through the Australian Camp, which is a very popular short hiking destination from Pokharab, and then our route of the Annapurna Sanctuary trail joins the Phedi-Dhampus route to Annapurna Base Camp.
When to trek? What is the best time to trek?
The best time to trek to Annapurna Sanctuary is from mid-September to November and March to May. The weather is sunny and warm, with outstanding views. Daytime temperatures at most altitudes are generally comfortable for walking, the sky is clear much of the time, and rain and snow are occasional occurrences. If you wish to escape from crowds and enjoy some lonely time with nature, then Wilderness Excursion suggests you trek there in December, January, and March. However, the temperature during winter could be tough for most guests.
Trekking in the summer or monsoon seasons (June to Aug) will be affected by rain, but the summer trek could be beneficial as it provides immense tranquility due to fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, and a chance to experience rich, active biodiversity, while often offering more budget-friendly, intimate cultural interactions with locals. Check our Nepal Monsoon Treks if you are considering trekking in Annapurna in July or August.
How hard is this trek/level of difficulty?
Regarding the difficulty of this trek, this is medium hard for first-time trekkers in the Nepalese Himalaya. But if you have past hiking experience in the Alps or hiked in Bhutan / Machu Picchu, then this trek is moderately easy compared to other treks such as Manaslu Circuit, Kanchenjunga, Dolpo, and even the Everest Base Camp Trek, etc.
How is the accommodation on the Annapurna Sanctuary trekking route?
The lodges in the Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking Route are pretty good, clean, and tidy; beyond Bamboo, there are mostly double, triple, or four-bed rooms only; single-bed rooms are rare when we go higher. But single rooms are readily available in lower elevations. You may have to share the room with other trekkers if you are trekking solo, as the lodges get full of visitors in peak seasons. Hot showers are readily available in most places as well.
Meals in Annapurna Sanctuary Trek
During our Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, you could enjoy a wide range of food varieties, from Western food to authentic Nepali meals, Chinese, and Tibetan, etc. There are choices everywhere; pasta, pizza, macaroni, cheese, eggs, curry rice, chicken, potato, item, spring roll, chapati, muesli, porridge, omelet, and pancakes for breakfast are a few to name. Meat is not allowed to be carried out to Annapurna Base Camp as the locals believe the Himalayas are sacred and holy, though you could enjoy a chicken roast in low elevations. At any guesthouse, you could expect the choices to fall into one of these menu categories: Please do not expect the meal to be of world-class standard, but they always try to do their best to serve you in the highly remote area.
How to get to the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek?
Most people take tourist buses to Pokhara; it is 200 km long, and it takes 7 to 8 hours depending on traffic on the way. There are tourist coaches available.
