Khaptad National Park, established in 1984 in Nepal's far west, offers a secluded wilderness experience and features diverse flora, fauna, and religious significance due to Khaptad Baba and a very scenic landscape and non-touristic trek. Only a small percentage of travelers visit Nepal's wilderness national parks, and the Khaptad National Park Tour provides one of such experiences.

Trip Overview

Khaptad National Park Tour offers one of the non-touristic wilderness national park experiences in Nepal that is visited by very few numbers of tourists. The area of the park is 225 square km. The Khaptad National Park, one of the main attractions of Khaptad, was established in 1984 in the far western region of Nepal. It is covered by beautiful oak and rhododendron forests. Bear, leopard, common langur, musk deer, 260 species of birds, 500 types of herbs, and a large number of flora and fauna are found in this national park situated at 12 thousand feet from the sea level.

Khaptad area is known as the ground-heaven of far west Nepal. Known for its natural beauty and biological diversity, the Khaptad area can be reached through Doti, Achham, Bajang and Bajura Districts of Nepal. It is easier to reach the Khaptad area through Bajhang and Doti District. In addition to its natural varieties, the Khaptad National Park is a very renowned religious place, as it is the domicile of Hindu guru "Khaptad Swami" or "Khaptad Baba," a renounced hermit. Khaptad Baba lived here for many years and found out many healing herbal plants. He meditated in the Khaptad area for a long time and reserved a five-kilometer area for the meditation and tranquility.

Khaptad Lake and the wonderful view of Api and the Saipal Himal range are of special interest for the tourists. The biggest carnival known as Ganga Dashahara Carnival gets held in Khaptad on 14 Jestha of Nepali month that falls in the last week of May. For the tourists, the carnival is a great opportunity to see far western culture and lifestyle. Butchering, alcohol and tobacco are forbidden in his area.

Itinerary

The first day of our journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Dhanghadi, which takes an hour and 15 minutes to reach Dhanghadi. Then we drive towards Silgadhi. It will be some 192 km, and that takes 6 hours by jeep. As the jeep travels down the meandering trail, you will get the chance to see some of the most stunning and challenging hills in the far western region. The bus will then go to Dipayal and then pause in the middle of the road for lunch before arriving at Silgadhi. It will be an evening when we finally arrive in Silghadi following a long bus journey. You will be shown to one of the lodges upon your arrival, where a cozy room awaits you. You now have plenty of time to rest after your lengthy journey before beginning your expedition the following day.

After a nice breakfast at the lodge, we are ready to start your trip. You will soon take the hike route that branches off of the main road. After that, the path soon becomes the trail route as it heads in the direction of Jhingrana. The surrounding scenery becomes even more stunning as we approach Baghlekh village. This group welcomes us with several lodges and mud homes. The trip from Baghlekh to Jhingrana, the day's last destination, takes roughly three hours. Spend the night at the Jhingrana local lodge.

We're going to Bichpani today after breakfast in Jhingrana. You'll pass past wildflower-covered slopes as you continue the trail and approach this community. You will eventually reach the top of the hill and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the mountains after some walking. After a substantial lunch in Bichpani, we will head to the Khaptad National Park. It will take you about eight or nine hours total to travel from Jhingrana to the national park's overnight spot. You will therefore pass through rugged terrain, several meadows, wooded regions, and lakes throughout these hours.

After breakfast today, we'll resume our hike towards Khaptad Daha. It's a lake that sits at an elevation of 3000 meters inside the national park. We will head towards the meditation center, also called an ashram, which is located in the forest after exploring the lake. You will explore the area to the fullest and then head back to the headquarters for lunch. You will then ascend to Ghodedhawan, the largest pasture in the national park, after having some time to relax here. Following your thorough exploration of the area, you will return to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Following our footsteps back to Jhigrana, we will pass through the same trail. Four-hour trek from Khaptad to Bichpani and then to Jhigrana. Overnight at Jhigrana.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we drive towards Dhangadhi. Dhangadi is a village development committee in Siraha District in the Sagarmatha Zone of south-eastern Nepal. Overnight stay at Dhangadhi.

On the last day of our journey, we return to the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. There are two options to arrive in Kathmandu. You can catch a flight from Dhangadi – Kathmandu which will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Kathmandu, whereas it takes 16 to 20 hours by bus travel. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

This is our standard itinerary. It can be customized or slightly changed if required considering your pace and trekking habit that cause a change of day-to-day plan.
