Day 01

Kathmandu to Rasuwa Gadi

You'll travel today via the southern Himalayan region to the border between China and Nepal!

We will pick you up from your Kathmandu hotel in the morning and take you to the Sino-Nepal border. The border town of Rasuwa Gadi is about a 7-hour drive away (130 km).

You'll hardly notice the rough road on the drive from Kathmandu to the border because of the breathtaking surroundings. Many stunning snow-capped mountains at the southern foot of the Himalayas, shrouded in a thick forest and reaching high into the skies, will be visible to you along the route.

There is an extremely hard road segment through Langtang National Park, where the car swings on the muddy surface. However, the fascinating part is that you might run into some intriguing

Day 02

Rasuwa Gadi to Gyirong

You'll travel 15 kilometers to the border after breakfast, where you'll cross into China through the Gyirong border. After a one-hour drive, our Tibetan guide will meet you at the Gyirong side and lead you to Gyirong town.

You will visit Gyirong Valley after arriving, which British explorer Howard-Bury called the world's most beautiful valley in his book "Mount Everest: The Reconnaissance."

You may explore the Sherpa communities here and take in the sight of quiet villages, thick forests, and stunning snow-capped peaks rising above the forest.

Stay in Gyirong for the night.

Day 03

Gyirong to Saga (B)

Following breakfast, you will travel 250 kilometers to Saga, leaving Gyirong, which is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and thick forests, behind.

En route, you will be treated to breathtaking vistas of famous sites like the gorgeous Lake Peiku tso, which is situated at an astounding elevation of 4590 meters, and Mt. Shishapangma, the 14th highest mountain in the world at 8027 meters.

Keep a watch out since you might also be lucky enough to see uncommon animals like antelopes and wild donkeys.

You will eventually reach Saga County. Spend the night in Saga.

Day 04

Saga to Darchen via Lake Manasarovar

Your journey to Darchen, the little town at the base of Mount Kailash, will begin after breakfast.

Along the way, you might come across flocks of sheep and yaks on the huge grasslands that lie beneath the snow-capped mountains. In the interim, you'll travel past Gongzhucuo Lake, a stunning green lake.

The Mayum La Mountain (5211 meters) marks the formal entrance into the Ngari Region. As you cross the mountain pass, the sacred Lake Manasarovar comes into view. It feels like you are entering a wilderness with wild animals living in it. Those who see Lake Manasarovar with Mount Kailash in the distance are frequently in awe and motivated.

Following a brief rest beside the lake, you will proceed to Darchen in preparation for your ascent of Mount Kailash.

Day 05

Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (Trek Day 1: 13km)

To begin today's 13-kilometer hike around Mount Kailash, you are expected to board an eco-bus from Darchen to Sarshung Valley. The first 13 kilometers, which take you into the valley near Mount Kailash's base, are quite simple. The western and southern slopes of the revered Mount Kailash are seen. You will check into the Dirapuk Monastery guesthouse once you get to the base of the western slope. Follow our itinerary to explore the historic Dirapuk Monastery (also called Zhire Temple) for the rest of the day. Seize priceless moments in front of the revered stupas and the majesty of Mount Kailash's western slope.

If the weather permits, enjoy the breathtaking scene of Mount Kailash at sunset over Mount Kailash from Dirapuk Monastery. Witness the sun's afterglow delicately illuminating the cliffs of the western slope as night descends.

Day 06

Dirapuk Monastery to the Western Slope of Mt. Kailash Trek (Trek Day 2)

Trek up the mountain from Dirapuk Monastery in the morning, arriving at an altitude of roughly 5800 meters at the glacier on Mount Kailash's western slope. This is your one chance to go up close and personal with the holy mountain. You will be guided by our guide to the center of the world for meditation.

If you're in decent physical shape, our guide will walk with you to approach the rocky walls of Mount Kailash and try to touch it.

You will take the same road back to Dirapuk Monastery after this amazing trip.

Day 07

Dirapuk Monastery to Zutulpuk Monastery (Trek Day 3: 24km)

Start your day early with a 4-kilometer trek from Dirapuk Monastery to reach 5430 meters. This section offers a rapid climb with a breathtaking view of the sunrise over the northwest slope of Mount Kailash.

Afterward, you’ll continue another 2-kilometer trek to Dolma La Pass, the highest point at an altitude of 5630 meters. Along this path, you’ll see prayer flags hanging everywhere on the pass.

(Notice: The high altitude means even in summer, the path is icy and scattered with rocks, requiring caution to prevent slipping.)

After successfully crossing Dolma La Pass, you’ll be greeted by the emerald-green Lake of Compassion (also known as Guri Kund), believed to purify a lifetime of sins with a dip. You’ll also witness the thick glaciers on the northwest slope of Mount Kailash.

Following the Lake of Compassion, a gradual descent leads you to the valley beneath the southeast foot of Mount Kailash, where Zutulpuk Monastery (also known as Dzutripuk Monastery) is located. Here, you may encounter adorable wild animals and find a peaceful resting spot on the grasslands.

Day 08

Zutulpuk Monastery to Darchen, and Drive to Saga (Trek Day 4: 12km)

In the morning, you’ll trek back from Zutulpuk Monastery to Darchen, the starting point of Kailash Trek.

After completing the Kailash trek, you are going to drive back to Sage and relive the scenic wonders of the Ngari Plateau, the Himalayas, and the Gangdise Mountains. Along the journey, you can stop at grassy pastures and lakes to get close to the nature and wildlife of Ngari.

Later today, you will finally arrive in Saga.

Day 09

Saga to Gyirong

begin the journey to Kyirong, the hidden gem on the Sino-Nepal border. As the altitude drops, the scenery along the roadside changes from snow-capped mountains and wastelands to dense forests and canyon landscapes.

Upon reaching Kyirong Town in the afternoon, you’ll explore Kyirong Valley described by British explorer Howard-Bury as the most beautiful valley in the world in his book 'Mount Everest: The Reconnaissance'.

Here, you can visit the Sherpa villages and admire dense forests, serene villages, and beautiful snow peaks above the woods. Additionally, you can experience the humid and mild oxygen, quite distinct from the dry and thin air of the Ngari Plateau.

Day 10

Kyirong Border to Kathmandu

You will say goodbye to your Tibetan tour guide and driver. Our Nepali staff at the Nepal border port will warmly welcome you, assist you in applying for a Nepal visa, and be responsible for carrying large luggage (at your own expense). We ensure a safe transfer for you to your hotel in Kathmandu with Tibet Vista’s vehicle. Tour service ends.
