The Nepal Government has revised mountaineering royalty fees, with the new rates taking effect on September 1, 2025
Mountain Climbing Royalty Update 2025
The Nepal government has increased the price of climbing Mount Everest in the spring season from the previous fee of $11,000 (NPR 15,32,818) per person to $15,000 (Rs. 2,09,206) per person.
The government's increased fees (royalty) for mountain climbing will be implemented from next year, 2082. According to Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the date for the implementation of the increased fees for mountain climbing has been set for 16 Bhadra 2082 (1 September 2025).
Before that date, climbing permits will be issued at the same fee as before. The government has recently approved the Mountaineering (Sixth Amendment) Regulations 2081.
These regulations have increased the climbing fee. However, the regulations state that the same fee will be applicable in the upcoming mountaineering season. The government has increased the price of climbing Mount Everest in the spring season from the previous $11,000 (Rs. 1,532,818) per person to $15,000 (Rs. 2,09,206) per person.
The price of other routes to Everest has been increased to $10,000 in the spring season, $5,000 in the fall season, and $2,500 in the winter and rainy seasons.
Similarly, the price for autumn has been increased to $7,500, and the price for winter and rainy seasons has been increased to $3,750. This price is for the normal route of Everest (southeast ridge). The price for other routes of Everest has been increased to $10,000 for spring, $5,000 for autumn, and $2,500 for winter and rainy seasons.
According to the new price, climbing mountains above 8,000 meters, except Everest, has been set at $3,000 in the spring season. The other two seasons have been increased to $1,000 and $750, respectively.
Similarly, the fee for climbing Manaslu has been increased to $1,500 in the spring season and $3,000 and $1,500 in the other two seasons. The fee for climbing mountains between 7,501 meters and 8,000 meters has been increased to $1,000 and $250 in the other two seasons.
To climb Mount Ama Dablam, you have to pay $1,000 each in spring and autumn and $500 in other seasons. For mountains smaller than 6000 meters, the same fee of $350 and $175 has been fixed for those categorized as NMA Peaks.

How much has it cost for Nepali citizens?
The government has also increased the climbing fee for Nepali citizens. Earlier, the fee for the normal route of Everest, which was 75,000 rupees per person, has been increased to 150,000 rupees. It has been increased to 75,000 in the autumn season and 37,500 in the winter and rainy season.

On other routes to Everest, Nepali citizens will have to pay a fee of Rs 100,000 in the spring season and Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 in the other two seasons. For other mountains above 8,000 meters, the fees are Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 12,500, respectively.
