Min Bahadur Sherchan dies on Mt Everest

Sherchan died at Everest Base Camp on 6 May 2017 while trying to reclaim his title.

Min Bahadur Sherchan, an 86-year-old former British Gurkha who aimed at reclaiming the crown of the oldest climber to climb the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest, has died at 5:14 pm today, multiple sources at the Everest base camp confirmed. Nepal's oldest Everest climber has died at the base camp of Mt. Everest on Saturday. Some 800 people, including climbers from around the world, and their helping Sherpa got the climbing permit for this spring season 2017, according to the Department of Tourism in Nepal.

He was born in June 1931 in Myagdi district of western Nepal; Sherchan had stood atop Mount Everest in May 2010 at the age of 80 years. Last week, famed Swiss climber Ueli Steck lost his life in an accident in the Mt. Everest region. We feel very sorry to learn this news of his sudden demise, and we express our deep condolences to his family and well-wishers.
