Manaslu Trek Itinerary Update 2025 - Explore It in Depth

The Manaslu Circuit in Nepal, the country’s best trek, has been very popular for the last decade. Yes, just 10 years ago, the Manaslu trekking route was less known, and hardly a few camping trekking groups were taken to Manaslu Larke Pass by trekking agencies for those who could afford the fully organized camping trek cost. The route just opened in 1992 for foreign hikers, and only a limited number of assigned people were permitted in the early years. Our first teahouse trek to Manaslu was in 2011, and we could enjoy a basic teahouse and spend nights in traditional homestays, which was amazing because it offered firsthand experience to get to know the locals, their lifestyle, and the untrodden centuries-old trail.

But its popularity has grown so fast in the past ten years that around ten thousand people have trekked to Manaslu in recent years. The route is now well established, with adequate trekking lodges along the Manaslu Circuit Trek Route.

However, along with its popularity, sadly, the government of Nepal is building a road to the Larke Pass and has a plan to link with Tibet. Nepal’s mountain tourism has already affected the area, killing some of those centuries-old trails and displacing lodges and teahouses between Arughat and Machha Khola, and even further to Jagat-Philim. This section previously provided the best geographical and cultural diversity to the tourists.  So we have redesigned an 18-day itinerary that provides complete insight into the Manaslu route for those trekkers seeking places of interest and a sneak into some of the hidden gems of memorable Side trips in Manaslu, where very few people hike. These beautiful side trips compensate for the places trodden by road. We propose the best itinerary for the years 2025 and 2026.

What is the longest itinerary for the Manaslu Trek?

The Manaslu Trek can be extended up to three weeks. There are several side trips worth adding to the standard 13 to 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek. This trek will last even 18 days if you add a side trek to Tsum Valley, a hidden gem of a less-visited area nestled between the Ganesh Himal range and Sringi Himal. We offer a customized 18-Day Manaslu and Tsum Valley with a side visit to Tsum Valley for an additional week.

Combining the Manaslu Circuit with Nar Phu Valley, and the Annapurna Circuit with even Tilicho Lake

We can design an Ultimate Manaslu Trek, a month-long itinerary that seamlessly combines the Manaslu Circuit with the Annapurna Circuit. After completing the Manaslu Circuit at Dharapani, the journey continues toward the remote and isolated Nar Phu Valley—a hidden gem tucked away north of the main Annapurna trail—before ascending the iconic Thorong La Pass. Trekkers can choose to include or skip the Nar Phu side trip, depending on your preference and the time you have. This extended adventure can also feature a visit to the breathtaking Lake Tilicho (4,919 m), one of the world’s highest lakes, before concluding the trek to Annapurna at the sacred site of Muktinath.

For those seeking an alternative to the classic Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), the challenging Mesokanto La Pass (5,120 m) offers a thrilling high-altitude crossing, ending the trek in Jomsom instead, and provides less trekked route experience.

This combined Manaslu, Nar Phu, and Annapurna Circuit Trek spans 25 to 30 days and features three major Himalayan passes:

  • Larke Pass (5,106 m) on the Manaslu Circuit
  • Kangla Pass (5,320 m) for the Nar Phu Valley detour
  • Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) or Mesokanto La Pass (5,120 m) on the Annapurna Circuit

This epic journey blends diverse landscapes, rich cultural encounters, and high-altitude challenges, making it one of Nepal’s most rewarding extended treks.

What is the shortest Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary for those with limited time?

The shortest Manalsu Trek itinerary will be 8 to 9 days of hiking through the main trail, skipping side trips and a proper acclimatization day. However, this type of hiking can be hazardous for inexperienced trekkers due to altitude sickness and is recommended only for expert trekkers. We (Wilderness Excursion) suggest a usual 12 to 14-day Manalsu Trek for novice trekkers.

Wish you had more time to explore the Manaslu Circuit in depth? No problem!
